UNSW has launched a new initiative called the ALLY program aimed at creating a more supportive and inclusive culture for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and questioning heterosexual (GLBTQIQH) students and staff. ALLY is a joint initiative of the Student Equity and Disabilities Unit, Human Resources and is supported by Arc. ALLY@UNSW is an active network that meets regularly to discuss issues, host guest speakers and events, and remain in touch with GLBTQIQH issues that impact on staff and students at UNSW. Volunteer staff and student leaders must undergo training to become Allies. Allies are a cross-section of the UNSW community who affirm the rights and experiences of GLBTQIQH people, challenge homophobic and heterosexist values as well as acting as a confidential referral point for students and staff. Allies are recognised by displaying the ALLY@UNSW logo in their work area or by wearing a badge. |
