About Us

The Student Equity and Disabilities Unit (SEADU) is committed to ensuring that every student’s experience of the University of New South Wales is free from discrimination and harassment.

Our role is to promote a culturally rich and diverse university campus and to work with students, staff and administration to achieve that.

We provide a range of services, support and advice to help students overcome barriers that could prevent them from having a successful university education.

These barriers may stem from a student’s personal experience such as having:

• a disability
• financial hardship
• difficult social circumstances
• geographic isolation
• English language problems

We have a team of professional Disability and Equity Officers who are available to students to provide advice or support in any of these areas.

We are actively involved in and organise a wide range of events within the University to promote and safeguard a flourishing socially and culturally diverse community.

We also ensure that UNSW adheres to its Commonwealth and State legislative responsibilities and obligations under various Acts and policies relating to anti-discrimination.

How we can help you:

• If you have a disability or a condition that has an impact on your ability to manage your studies, Disability Services can be put in place to assist you.

• If you are a student and you have a grievance against another student or a member of staff, we can assist you with the UNSW student grievance procedures.

• If you are interested in applying for the ACCESS scheme, or you are a current ACCESS student, we can provide individual support and advice.

• Your school may be interested in knowing more about our ASPIRE programme, which encourages students from disadvantaged high schools to break the mould and reach for a university education.

If at any time while you are at UNSW you think you need assistance or more information regarding any of the above, please do not hesitate to contact us or come in and see us.

Our services are free and confidential.
